DENSITY is a radiofrequency device that draws attention as a revolutionary solution for skin laxity and rejuvenation. DENSITY uses a specific frequency band of 6.78 MHz to effectively deliver energy to the dermal layer and subcutaneous tissue of the skin. This frequency band uses joule heating and dielectric heating, which allows it to act on a wider range and deeper than conventional HIFU and RF devices. This article reports on a live surgery.

1. Assessment and Zone Classification

In performing DENSITY treatment, we first assess the patient’s face to determine which areas require tightening. Particularly, we take into account skin laxity around the cheeks due to aging and skin thinness under the eyes, and determine appropriate treatment areas. Be careful not to excessively tighten areas that have lost volume.
2. Treatment Flow
We will begin treatment using monopolar. The recommended output level is 3-3.5, and Classic Tips will be used. We will irradiate 200 shots of Monopolar(Classic Tips) and Mono-Bipolar(High Tips) each in total, paying attention to the following points.
- Areas that needs to be firmed: As heat tends to accumulate in areas close to the bone, perform the treatment while checking the temperature with the left hand.
- Stamping/Moving: Stamping Method alone will cause too much heat to build up, so it is necessary to move it around moderately to disperse the heat. However, if you move it too much, the skin tightening effect will decrease.
- For areas with little skin volume: The skin is thin around the nasolabial folds, labiomandibular folds and hollows under the eyes, so we use the Mono-Bipolar Tip to give the skin a moderate fullness.
3. Key Points for Each Treatment Area

- Lower cheeks: Skin laxity is most noticeable in this area, so it is thoroughly irradiated to tighten the skin.
- Forehead and temples: Since these areas are prone to hollowing, Mono-Bipolar Tip is used while performing Moving Method to increase firmness.
- Under the eyes: Since the skin is thin, the Mono-Bi Tip is set at level 4.5 to 5 to improve skin firmness.
- Marionette lines and nasolabial folds: Combine Stamping and Moving Methods for effective tightening.
4. Adjustments During Treatment

It is important to adjust the energy level according to the patient’s pain perception. Monopolar Classic Tip is generally recommended at level 3 to 3.5, but if the patient complains of pain, consider lowering the level to 2.5 or so. Performing the treatment at a moderately low level will make the skin look beautiful immediately after the treatment.
5. Combination with Other Treatments
DENSITY is more effective when combined with HIFU or laser therapy.
- Combined use with HIFU: For patients with prominent skin laxity, the lifting effect can be maximized by performing HIFU after radiofrequency.
- Combined use with Micro-Needle RF: For the purpose of improving open pores and skin texture, additional RF Needling after RF treatment provides further skin beautification effects.
- Combined use with Botox: It is recommended that Botox is used not before but after DENSITY treatment. DENSITY uses RF to heat the subcutaneous tissue to approximately 60℃, which may impair the effect of Botox.
- Combined use with thread lift: As thread lift is accompanied by swelling, it is recommended that DENSITY and thread lift be scheduled separately.
6. Duration of the Treatment and Frequency
DENSITY’s peak effect is after 3 months, with the effect lasting 4 to 5 months for those in their 40s and 50s. The lifting effect can be maintained over the long term by treating once every 3 to 4 months for the first few times, and then once every 6 months after that.
7. Applying to Younger Generations

Since HIFU causes non-selective coagulation of tissue, detailed designs are required when applying it to young people. RF, in contrast, is tissue-selective and can be used only on areas with subcutaneous fat, so it is easier to apply to young people.
